The Walpole Recreation Department is hosting the 8TH Annual Walpole Arts & Music Fest on Saturday, October 2 from 10am – 3pm on the fields around Blackburn Hall.

Many of the traditional aspects of the day will be part of the day, such as talented artists and vendors, outstanding music, school poetry slam and kids’ corner, and food from local restaurants, and many surprises and new events. The day is also held in conjunction with the Walpole Fire Department Open House.

Every year the event hosts many artists that include watercolorists, potters, illustrators, authors, jewelers, workers of fabric and more. The artist always include all levels of their work – some high end items, as well as moderately priced pieces of art which is a great way to start the holiday shopping. This year the Walpole Recreation Department is reaching out to new artists so they may learn what a great event Walpole hosts. “WAMF has become a great tradition in Walpole - we know there are local artists right in Walpole that haven’t joined us yet and we desperately want them to join our day and celebrate their work,” said event organizer, Aicha Kelley.”

The Walpole Arts & Music Fest has never been a juried event and the applicaiton fee is $55. “We choose not to jury because art is so subjective,” said Kelley, “We keep the  fee costs down because we don’t want anyone left out - including starving artists. We even offer scholarships if they contact me.”  If anyone is interested in participating either as a artist, vendor or volunteer, please feel free to contact Aicha Kelley at 508-660-6371 or akelley@walpole-ma.gov

The Friends of the Walpole Recreation Department is throwing a fabulous annual event, “Spookfest – 2010” on October 15 at Raffael’s on Main St from 8PM - 12 Midnight. The night will include a DJ, dancing to 80’s tunes, disco, spooky party songs and good ol’ rock n’ roll, munchies, games, silent auction, raffles and fabulous decorations and more surprises all night long. The tickets are only $15 presale or $20 at the door. Costumes are preferred, but not mandatory.

Last year the ballroom was transformed into a haunted house with sparkling pumpkins and ghosts. It was widely attended and the hope is to have the crowd even larger this year. The food was delicious, everyone got up and danced in their elaborate or simple costumes or no costumes at all - just dressed for fun.

The committee wants all who have been touched by the recreation department such as attendees of children’s programs, adult and senior programs, the Fields Committee or vendors that participated in Walpole Day or the Walpole Arts Fest, people that enjoy the Taste of Walpole, people impacted by the Coalition for Alcohol Awareness and the Teen Advisory Committee.

Tickets will be available soon at the Walpole Recreation Department in Blackburn Hall on Stone Street and at Rockland Federal Credit Union in Ashmont Plaza on Main Street. If anyone would like to volunteer, make a donation for the silent auction, or has any questions, please contact Aicha Kelley at 508-660-6371.
